Maranta Cristata Bicolor

Maranta cristata ‘Bicolor’ is special for its dark, striking leaves. The darkest tones appear on the leaves of new shoots that have grown from more mature rhizomes. Unlike Maranta Cristata ‘Intense’, which may look very similar, the outer edge of ‘Bicolor’ leaves is darker green than the center.

Gaisma: Marantām patiks gaiša vieta (ne tieši saules stari). Tās ļoti labi jutīsies arī uz Ziemeļu palodzes.

Liešana: Augsnes virskārtai jāļauj nedaudz izžūt. Ja būs gadījies augu iekaltēt, maranta noteikti dos ziņu, sarullējot lapas tūtiņās. Ja gadījies pārliet – lapas dzeltēs.  Laistīt ieteicams ar istabas temperatūras nostādinātu krāna vai filtrētu ūdeni.

Mitrums: Marantas būs ideāli piemērotas vannasistabai, kur gaisa mitrums ir augstāks, jo, ja telpā ir ļoti sauss gaiss, lapu galiņi sāks brūnēt. Augu nevajadzētu novietot radiatoru tuvumā vai aukstumā. Piemērotākais mitrumalīmenis – 40-60%.

Marantas can and should be misted, and once a week it is recommended to give the plant a gentle shower, thoroughly rinsing both the upper and lower sides of the leaves. If rainwater is available, it will feel like a true SPA treatment for a Maranta.

Repot the plant when roots begin to grow out through the bottom drainage holes. Choose a pot 2–3 sizes larger than the current one. Plant in an airy substrate based on peat or coconut fiber, adding perlite for extra lightness.

Mēslošana: Ar mēslošanu aizrauties nevajag, jo marantām nepatiks minerālvielām bagāta augsne. Mēslo no marta līdz oktobrim, max 1x mēnesī ar zaļajiem telpaugiem paredzētu mēslojumu, vēlams mazākā koncentrācijā nekā norādīts uz iepakojuma.

Marantas bloom with delicate lilac-white flowers. However, Marantas are usually grown not for their flowers, but for their decorative foliage.

A very interesting feature of almost all Maranta varieties—except Maranta Arundinacea variegata —is that during daylight hours the leaves are lowered, but at night they raise upwards. For this reason, they are called “prayer plants.”

Pavairošana: Jaunie dzinumi podā veidojās no nobriedušām rizomām. Vairums marantu ir viegli pavairojamas arī ar galotņu spraudeņiem.

Marantas are pet-friendly houseplants that do not contain toxic substances, making them an ideal choice if you have a dog or cat that occasionally likes to nibble on leaves. :)
